EXPERIENCE

For over 20 years Clinical Director Gary N. Bourland, MA, LMFT, LCDC has run the gamut as a mental health professional. Having worked at many psychiatric hospitals in the Dallas area, his experience ranges from developing and directing inpatient psychiatric programming, including years of direct patient care, to serving as acting administrator for an entire psychiatric hospital. He first worked exclusively with adolescents and children, followed by adults and families. With experience in most mental health issues, he specializes in individual, couples and family therapy, eating disorders and addictions.

As adjunct professor with Dallas  and Collin County Community College Districts, Mr. Bourland has taught various Social Science and Psychology courses over the years, some with specific focus on addictions and eating disorders.

INDIVIDUAL, COUPLES & FAMILIES

Problem solving, clarification, making healthy choices and reaching new levels of happiness is what therapy is about. Complicated family issues—child rearing, blended families, hurt and anger —need to be addressed in the right way. Couples struggling with anger, estrangement, intimacy, infidelity, commitment to the relationship and other issues can benefit from therapy. Being single can also present unique challenges.

RELIGION, EXPECTATIONS AND STRESS

Sometimes expectations related to religious beliefs results in internal conflict or conflict within families. Bourland has counseled spouses of clergy and others experiencing stress due to religion-related issues. Religious addiction, shame, guilt, anger and other stressors are treated by Bourland respectfully from a mental health standpoint.

EATING DISORDERS

The beginning point for anyone with eating disorder or food and body related issues is a an Eating Disorders Evaluation. The evaluation outcome provides information for the correct starting point. If outpatient treatment is needed, we can provide eating disorders therapy (1+hrs/wk) and  intensive outpatient treatment (6 - 9 hrs/wk) including therapeutic meals, relapse prevention and other therapies.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

Clients/patients pay fees out-of-pocket and in advance for all services. Those who pay for services in this manner can protect their anonymity. Employers,  insurance or managed care company employees and others will not know their personal issues.

For those who want to file for insurance coverage, we provide a receipt for services paid. Our receipt includes health care provider credentialing information. It is then up to the client/patient and the insurance or managed care company to work out any reimbursement arrangements.

Sometimes insurance coverage will allow a "carve out" or out-of-network coverage. In most cases, this can be determined by you in advance by communicating with your insurance carrier.  This Web site is a good resource for companies wanting to know the nature of our services, and you may want to refer them here.
